Purchased my dream car!

I remember that year going through a car magazine seeing a picture of the mighty R32 GTR and turning to my brother and telling him that one day I would own that car. True to my word in 2001 I bought my first GTR; a 1993 red R32 GTR.

I purchased the car through a Japanese car auction site. I was so over the moon when my brother told me that I had the winning bid. Finally the dream I had of owning my dream car was finally a reality. When the car went into the auction yard I had the clearing company take detailed photos of the car. To my amazement the car was so far from stock. The engine bay picture was dominated with two massive Blitz high mount turbos and the interior was surrounded with a roll cage.

The Build

Not too long after getting the car complianced and one the road. I put the car into get it checked up. The car drove poorly and I needed to find out why. Iam at Horsepower Factory informed me the car needed an aftermarket engine managment system. The car was too midfied for a standard ECU.

I was recommended to use the Autronic system and so began the endless flow of money going into my GTR.

During the tune one of the twin turbos blew sending some debris into the engine. This meant I needed to rebuild my engine. I chose to do a full engine build and use forged parts. The twin turbo system went and made way for a single Garrett T04Z.

Turbo selection

In the early 00’s the sigle turbo of choice for GTR’s were the TO4Z. The one I chose was rated at 900hp; .84 exhaust housing with T4 flange.

ECU selection

Despite being told otherwise by the masses on the Sylines Australia forum. I went with the Autronic SMC ECU instead of the Apexi PowerFC.

Engine Modifications

Fully forged bottom end taking the capacity out to 2.731. Major head work was done with HKS 280 degree camshafts with 10.8mm lift.

On First Look

Upon first look of the my R32 GTR, the car looks unassuming. In fact, it looks almost stock. This was exactly the look I was after as I didn’t want attention from the police and personally, I am not one to drive attention seeking cars.

With the current build I intend to keep the standard look. Although, a new set or rims are going to be on order when the car is back on the road.

The car will retain the roll cage however the interior will get a much needed tidy up. The full bucket Bride seats will be replaced with something more comfortable.

CES Dump pipes to use with my Garrett turbos

Getting my R32 GT-R back on the road is getting closer. My brother has been working hard putting it all together at his factory. It’s a shame I can’t help him as I now live 1000km away in Sydney. As we are going with the low mount twin turbo setup initially, this week I made a purchase of a pair of CES dump pipes. Garrett 2860-9 turbos on my GT-R

After being defected I had to rethink the turbo setup I had to go with. I needed a setup that’ll give me good drivability and power with the most important factor; being able to clear my defect. I had only one option and the single turbo setup had to make way for a pair of Garrett 2860-9 turbos. My GT-R fuel delivery system

After turbo failure on the dyno blew bits of the turbo into my engine I decided to pull the engine out and do a full rebuild. At this time I was also buying up supporting parts that will allow me to push some serious power figures. Having a good fuel delivery system was on the forefront of my mind and some of the first parts I acquired for my R32 GT-R build. Injectors In the early 2000’s the...

Camshaft selection on my R32 GT-R

Camshaft selection is a tricky thing which is very much dependant on what you want your car to be. A race car, a drag car or an all round street car. The selection on which camshaft you use will change the rev range you will make your power. So it’s important to get it right or you’ll have a hard to drive streetcar much like my R32 GT-R. How my R32 GT-R got defected

In the mid to late 2000’s owning a Japanese performance car came with it a lot of fear when driving on the road. It was evident that police, particularly highway patrol were looking for these cars to pull over and issue defect notices. Hell, this was how my GT-R got defected. Although my car was parked on the side of the road. As a result of police blitzes hundreds of cars were taken off the...

The Big Single TO4Z Turbo on a forged RB26

In the early 2000’s modifying Japanese import cars was the thing. Forums like Nissan Silvia and Skylines Australia were awash with budding Japanese car owners and your status on the forum was based on the ride you had. More importantly, how powerful your ride was. It was a funny time. I however kept the modifications to my car totally secret, I wouldn’t open my bonnet at all for people to see....

Running an Autronic ECU on a R32 GT-R

With all the mods I had on my 32 GT-R I needed a brain to power it all. After all a standard ECU wasn’t going to get the most out of my forged build and big single turbo set up. After some deliberation I chose to go against the popular choice of the Apexi PowerFC and go with the Autronic SMC ECU. When I was looking at ECU’s I was wrongly advised by Horse Power Factory (at that time Amberley...

Right hand side wheel bearing replaced

While my brother was putting the front shaft of the GT-R together he noticed that the front right wheel bearing needed replacing. Since the car was already in pieces we had the great idea to just do both front wheel bearings. Bad move! Considering we didn’t have a press to put the wheel bearing in and I needed to remove the whole wheel assembly. So off came the wheel assembly.I ordered the wheel...

Oil drain hoses and drains for RB26 have arrived!

This week we had some inroads to getting the parts we needed for my R32 GT-R. After an exhausting three months of searching for standard RB26 twin turbo old drains we finally came up with an alternative solution.  We bought a flange from eBay for $18 for the pair that’ll screw on to the turbo oil drain and we can use a screw on Speedflow fitting to mimic the standard oil drains. When I was...
