The Skyline GT-R is a passion of mine just in case you didn’t notice. I have a blog dedicated to these cars for god sake. How much more proof do you need. As a very passionate fan of these cars I always notice and look at Skyline GT-R’s if I am out and about. I always take the opportunity to chat to a Skyline GT-R owner because speaking to GT-R passionate people is infectious.
Are you like me? Do you get as excited when you see a Skyline GTR?
When I see a GT-R I usually try and figure out what mods the car has got. For example, I’ll look for a front mount, listen to the idle to see if the car is cammed and view the aesthetics and appreciate how good the car looks.
It is not uncommon for me to strike up a conversation with GT-R owners. I always break the ice and the first five minutes of the conversation always seems awkward. Maybe I come on too strong as a lot of the owners look at me like a wiredo. Eventually their walls come down and the conversation flows. It flows when they realise that I do know a thing or two about the car and then when they ask me about my background with GTR’s the conversation is on.
People noticing my GT-R
Doesn’t happen often but people have in the past approached me to talk about my Skyline GT-R. I do enjoy engaging in conversation; just this Tuesday while warming up my car at work I had a fellow employee come and talk to me about my car. We spent over 30 minutes talking about GTR’s and modifications. Some might find this to give me a feeling of superiority but that is plain bull shit. I absolutely enjoy talking about cars full stop and am happy to talk to anyone with a passion for cars.
One thing I won’t do however is to pop the bonnet Fast and the Furious style and start listing off all my mods. I never want to fit into the boy racer/ hoon category that people put Skyline owners in. I guess this is a reason why you’d never see me at organised car meets or taking my car to places to draw attention.
What do you do when you see a GT-R?
So, what do you do? Do you rubber neck and check out the car or are you a little bit more social like me and hold a conversation with the owner. I encourage everyone to say hello. Especially if you are a GT-R fan. Hopefully one of the people that speaks to me about my car is you.
